When using light scattering detectors in GPC/SEC (especially LALLS/LALS detectors), excessive baseline noise arising from particulates in the eluent stream can significantly deteriorate the quality of the data. Traditionally, GPC/SEC columns can be one source of this problem. Normally a new column set needs a 'conditioning' process, which involves flushing the columns to waste without any detector connected.
PSS has developed Lux columns especially for GPC/SEC-light scattering to improve data quality for light scattering detectors.
Lux columns are available with different column materials, particle sizes, and porosities, as linear and as single porosity columns.
